Firstly, thank you for stopping by and CONGRATS on your day! You’re getting married which is pretty freakin AWESOME! 🥳

Now, before you get stuck into this site, I should let you know that Marry Me Josh isn’t for the ‘faint-hearted’, as I love to take care of absolutely EVERYTHING for my awesome couples, in the lead-up to the day and on the day itself, to make sure we achieve these three great things:

1. A CELEBRATION THAT IS AS UNIQUE AS YOU - there are four legal elements we need to take care of but otherwise, ZERO ‘must dos’ (we’ll chat more about this later on). So I like to discuss lots of great ceremony ideas with my couples and empower them to design a celebration (aka ‘ceremony’) that is unique and fun, yet personal and warm. And ultimately, one that matches their ‘couple personality’ and that is 100% THEM (rather than ‘good enough’ for them.)

2. A GREAT CONNECTION - to me, connection is key! I really enjoy helping and getting to know my couples as much as I can, so that they get an EPIC celebration, AND so they can simply be themselves and truly enjoy their day! Now, that’s a little easier said than done, but by this guy having everything sorted (and your back, always) you’ll be able to simply relax, be yourselves, be present, and truly enjoy every single awesome moment! I got you!

3. AN EPIC CEREMONY VIBE - now, let’s be honest, a typical ceremony vibe can feel a little awkward. BUT your celebration will be light and fun, and perhaps quite different to what you and your guests may have seen before. So in order to create a great vibe, I’ll need to try to break through the ‘resting guest face’ before we begin. I’ll be there early to play some tunes and create a warm, chilled vibe, before your guests rock up, and then, we’ll do a little somethin’ to warm your guests up, emotionally, before we jump into your celebration. Which, by the way, will feel like three good mates having THE BEST time, with a bunch of your favourite people coming along for the ride.

Now, I’ll be completely honest, creating such an experience does take a lot of time and effort. Which is why my service is quite detailed, and why I dedicate about 20 hours to each of my awesome couples, getting to know them and helping them create an EPIC celebration! But it’s time well spent, as the end result will be a Celebration that you and your guests will absolutely LOVE (rather than ‘survive’) and a guy who said ‘hey’ as a celebrant, but ‘goodbye’ as a friend.

WHAT DO I ACTUALLY DO?

As a Celebrant, I take care of the legal stuff and help couples create AWESOME celebrations! But, as a guy who absolutely loves what he does and who wants nothing less than an EPIC experience for his couples, I take care of SO many little details, and wear a few other hats as well 🎩

GOOD HUMAN FINDER: Chances are, we’ll meet in the early stages of your wedding planning journey when you might still be chasing some members for your dream team. So if you need, I’ll recommend some vendors who are great at what they do and even better human beings! To me, these people are a reflection of me and my service, so they are tried and tested by yours truly.

VOW HELPER: The personal vows truly are a highlight of the ceremony! But I am well aware that nerves and/or ‘how to write them’ play a massive part, so I’ll help you with both! I’ll make sure the ceremony is light and fun (which will help to tackle the nerves), while you take a look at my Handy Vow Writing Guide. And if you still need a hand, just shout out as I write creatively for a living. In fact, my couples often send me drafts to tweak OR call me individually to get the ball rolling. Once you’re happy with your vows, I’ll have them formatted, printed, and ready to hand to you on the day (on a nice, ‘wind worthy’ 200GSM card, of course!)

THE REHEARSAL RUNNER: I bloody LOVE a good rehearsal, because it means that on the day we can simply rock up and enjoy the longer, more fun version of your ceremony (with my gentle guidance, of course). At the rehearsal, we’ll go through the logistics and confirm any final deets and by the end, you’ll probably be feeling pretty damn excited, so I’d definitely recommend making an arvo of it. Afterwards, grab a drink or even have a picnic with your wedding party, to celebrate your upcoming day!

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMAL: Now, I can’t beat an adorable labrador (nor will I ever try to compete). But on your day, I will be there for you, your guests, and your vendors for anything and everything. It is a HUGE day, and you should be able to be present and enjoy every single moment of it. So, the more I can hold space for you to simply relax and be yourselves, the better your day will be!

CELEBRATION COORDINATOR: Arriving early and having a super chilled chat with your vendors before the ceremony kicks off, is SO damn important to me, as I want your photographer to be aware of all the unique moments we have planned, OR the musician to know their cues (for example). All of this so that the ceremony runs like the well-oiled machine that it deserves to be.

CEREMONY CHECKER: I’ll be there early to make sure that everything is in the right spot, and is good to go. (For example, we wouldn’t want your wedding party of 20 to try and squeeze into the non-existent gap between the signing table and the arbour). I’ll even source the petals for your flower person and put out your reserved seating labels, if you need.

MUSIC MAN: In my opinion, if no one’s talking, there should be music. So from an hour before the ceremony, to half an hour after, I’ll take care of the tunes, including during the ceremony as well. So please let uncle Richard know that he can take the day off, cos Josh has it covered. And btw, I’ll bring a great-sounding, battery-powered Bose speaker (loud enough for over 100 people) and a high-quality wireless mic.

NANNA SITTER: Now, I won’t ‘babysit’ Nan, but I will say hello and help her find her seat (if she needs). And of course, chat with her for as long as she can put up with me.

BUTTONHOLE BOSS: It ain’t my first buttonhole rodeo. So if you need a hand attaching your buttonhole flower before we kick off, just let me know.

THE ‘JUST IN CASE’ GUY: I’ll be packin everything we need for ‘just in case’, including (but not limited to): two backup pens, backup mic batteries, tissues, a backup mic, Panadol, and mints.

GUEST GUIDER: Once you dance on out of your celebration, your guests might give me the ol ‘stunned mullet stare’. So, I’ll gently remind them of what’s happening next, and if your photographer needs, jump back on the mic to get your guests ready for photos.

➡ And by the way, this photo is of Nan smiling after she just read the card she is holding to herself, which contained the words she needed to pronounce the couple as married. This was a complete surprise for her and the guests, which worked an absolute treat 😍

THE LONG ANSWER (pour yourself a cuppa, joe)

Way back when in 2017, before I even began my celebrant course (yep, it’s a thing), I was doing my research and after speaking to many people about their wedding day experiences, I began to notice two common trends. That couples:

  1. Simply expected their ceremony to be ‘that thing they needed to survive before the party starts’.

  2. Were overly nervous or slightly ‘absent’ on their wedding day.

These ‘vibe killers’ baffled me, given that a wedding day was meant to be one of a couple’s BEST moments to date! So I became curious about why couples couldn’t create a fun, personal, and unique celebration, OR why they simply couldn’t relax and enjoy it on the day? After digging a little deeper, I discovered that people often felt this way because of many different factors, including other 'life things’ going on, their ceremony expectations, the expectations of others, how organised and supported they felt, and the experience and connection they had with their vendors in the lead up to their day (just to name a few...)

So, I set out to tackle the 1st ‘vibe killer’ and improve the overall experience…

I wanted to create a service that was super organised, yet easy and fun. To the point where ceremony planning felt like, ‘oh, that was easy’. And one that contained plenty of ‘I can’t believe he thought of that’ moments along the way…

One in which couples were guided by professional experience (rather than ‘you must dos’, which kinda don’t exist) and given ALL the options and guidance to feel empowered to design a uniquely personal ceremony, that they and their guests would absolutely LOVE and feel so damn proud to have experienced!

But I soon realised that helping my couples create a great Celebration was only half the story…

In my earlier days, I had a couple who were so ‘elsewhere’ on their wedding day, that when I cracked a beautifully timed dad joke, they stared straight ahead and laughed like robots.

And in that very moment, I could feel that they weren’t present or relaxed, and therefore, weren’t able to simply be themselves and enjoy their celebration. Which in turn, affected the overall ceremony vibe.

So after experiencing this, I set out once again to tackle the 2nd ‘vibe killer’ so that I could help my future couples have an even better experience. I worked out how I could better connect with my couples so that they felt more comfortable and confident with me, both as a fellow human and as a professional. To know that I have everything covered, and their backs, ALWAYS!

 

And now, where I’m at…

After marrying 606 incredible people (and learning LOTS along the way) to me, being a celebrant is MUCH more than simply rocking up and saying some words in front of a couple’s favourite people. It’s about:

🥂 Making sure that my couples can 100% be themselves and comfortable to enjoy a ceremony that is THEM.

🥂 Those MANY little details and logistics we consider and plan in the lead-up to the day so that the ceremony is as awesome and unique as you (and runs flawlessly, of course).

🥂 Empowering you to politely ignore the expectations of others and instead, work out what YOU want and how you want to feel during your day.

🥂 Connecting with my couples and ensuring they feel comfortable and confident with me, and within the ceremony space.

🥂 Helping other vendors where I can so that the couple gets THE BEST experience possible!

🥂 Creating a ceremony vibe that feels light and fun, yet warm and genuine (no cringe or awkward vibes OR ‘resting guest faces’ here, thank you.)

All of this, so that my couples (and their guests) can simply relax, be themselves, have a good chuckle, and TRULY enjoy their best moment yet! 🥳
